Flood watches posted as moisture increases for Utah and Colorado, cold front slows over Kansas and Missouri

Moisture chances increase for Utah and Colorado where flood watches are posted, however, heavier rainfall will cover a much broader region to the east of the Rockies. These areas are focused on monsoonal moisture for the Four Corners region, and then a slow-moving system covers the plains. For the Rockies, monsoonal moisture will be more than average and will lead to flash flooding concerns in isolated cases in the valleys and over burn scars. Here, moisture totals will likely stay below one inch, but in isolated cases may be more than that and that's the flooding concern. Meanwhile, a cold front will be slowly moving across the Northern Plains and will "park" over Missouri and Kansas Friday. Isolated rainfall totals on the Plains will likely exceed one inch, particularly in areas near Kansas City to Omaha. Overall, the risk of flooding in these regions is marginal during the next three days. The slow-moving system will reach the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic by Saturday, along with locally heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms.
